MARMARA 2002
2nd INTERNATIONAL UNDERWATER PHOTO/VIDEO FESTIVAL
21-23 June 2002 / Istanbul-Turkey

INTRODUCTION
The festival is being held by the Caddebostan Scuba Diver's Sport Club (hereafter referred
as BSK). It is the second international and 9th. National underwater festival held by BSK.

The festival consists of two different competitions:

- 2nd Underwater Photo and Film Competition
(photographs and films which were taken before).

- 9th 'Living Marmara Despite Everything' Diving contest to be held on 22 June 2002

COMPETITION REGULATIONS

1) 2nd Underwater Photo and Film Competition (photographs and films which
were taken before)

A. The competition is open to amateurs and professionals
B. Deadline for application and sending: 01 May 2002

D. The organising committee will not be responsible for lost and/or damage of photographs and films which may occur during the shipping and during the festival.
E. It is free to attend in more than one category, registration fee is 10 USD or the equivalent in Euro per category.
F. The same photograph can not be used in different categories.
G. The works that participated in this festival before can not be used again.
H. The official languages of the festival are Turkish and English.
I. Categories:

Slide - Sea

Colour and black&white photographs
J. Judging:
For films and slides; sea and freshwater will be judged as separate category. In each category, 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize as well as special awards will be given.
K. BSK maintains the right to hold copies of the awarded films or slides; indicating the name of the owner. The copies may be used in non-commercial exhibitions, presentations and etc.. The original works will be returned to the owners in 5 weeks.

L. Awards:
Various diving vacations in Turkey, diving equipment and a Red Sea vacation (excl.the flight) will be among the awarded prices.
M. Hotel:
Hotel reservations will be made upon request.
N. Participant will have been considered to accept all the terms and regulations.

SLIDE COMPETITION
A. All slides must be 35 mm and be taken underwater.
B. Set formats: Slides fitting a frame of 5*5 (cm).
C. The competitors shall participate with only 10 slides and only one series. The appraisal will be done over the whole series.
D. The slides must be shipped in a break-proof packaging and must be mounted under glass.
E. First and last names of the owner has to be written on every slide and a red dot must be marked in the lower left hand corner in order to show slides reference point. And show sequence number is obliged to be set aside.

VIDEO COMPETITION
A. Video formats may be either VHS, S-VHS, V8, Hi8, DV, mini DV or BetaCAM.
B. Maximum run time is 20 minutes, at least 40% of the video must be taken underwater.
C. Each competitor is only allowed one entry.

COLOUR AND BLACK & WHITE PHOTOGRAPH COMPETITION
A. Printing format is to be 30*40cm.
B. Only the unframed and inproped photographs will be approved, the works will be framed by the organisation.
C. Each competitor will only join with 3 photographs and every photograph will be evaluated.
D. First and last names and the subject should be written on the backside of all photos.

SLIDE SHOW COMPETITION
A. The slide shows, consisting the course of photographs which are synchronised to a music (cassette, cd) under the framework of a subject, will compete. Not only music and photograph but also an effect and talking can be used. And to obtain this synchronisation, only the performances in which 'Dataton' brand multivision program and equipment is used will be accepted.
B. Time for the slide shows made only by music is limited with 6 minutes. Time for the slide show made by a program can be maximum 12 minutes. Accepting longer show depends on the decision of the jury. At least, the 50% of the whole photographs must be underwater photographs.
C. The competitors are obliged to demand the technical form from the festival and fill it out.
D. The festival organisation has the right to cancel this part, if there don't exist enough participants.

2) 9th.'Living Marmara Despite Everything' Underwater Photo/Video Competition

A. The Aim Of The Competition: Capturing the natural life in The Sea of Marmara, despite pollution.
B. The Location and The Date Of The Competition: 22 June 2002 Saturday and 23 June 2002 Sunday. Intended region is around the Princess Islands (Yassiada) and a brief explanation will be given on the date of the competition for the weather conditions and related matters. The dive sites
may change due to the weather conditions.
C. Duration of The Competition: The competition will consists of two dives and each dive will be max. 60 minutes. One hour of surface time will be given between dives. One roll of film will be given to the competitor for each dive.
D. Rules Of Diving Technics: Maximum diving depth is 30 meters. Competitors diving 20% below the set limit will be disqualified. Diving is determined in the diving regulations of Turkish Republic General Directorate Of Youth And Sport. It is an obligation to dive in conformity with the regulations, like depth of diving, the surface gap, appropriate to deco table in which non-stop
decompression diving is used, standard diving equipment, a valid diving licence and etc. The competitors may use the decompression table or a diving computer for an additional safety measure.
E. Diving and competition equipment, buddies: Each competitor is obliged to provide all of his/her equipment. Two rolls of films will be given to each diver by the competition committee (specially marked) The ones to compete in the branch of video will provide the appropriate cassette for
their cameras and open their packing under the observation of the competition committee and take their numbers. In case of demand in the application form, buddy, BC, tank and regulator will be provided by the organising committee.
F. Before the competition begins, each competitor will take their own photo together with the registration number given to them. In the video, the vision of the contestant with the registration number should be recorded in the first 30 seconds of the video.
G. Delivery Of The Slide and the Video Cassettes:
Photography competitors will give the roll of film at the end of each dive to the dive master at the boat. Video competitors will submit their cassettes at the end of the second dive. The dive master at the boat will check if there are any damages or problems with the given cassettes or films.
If any is seen it will be recorded accordingly.

I. Judging: 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes and special awards will be given in photography. In video there will be only one 1st award and special awards will be given. The contestant in the branch of photography can submit 5 slides in both category. Evaluation will be done over each work. In video max. 5 minutes of edited visions is allowed.
J. Awards:
Various diving vacations in Turkey, diving equipment and a Red Sea vacation (excl. the flight) will be among the awarded prices.
K. For security reasons two competitors may not form a team. Each competitor must have a buddy.
L. Choice Of Slide And Video:
The contestants in the branch of photography will make their choice among the processed slides, and deliver to the committee on 23 June 2002 Sunday morning between 09.00 and 10.30 o'clock. In video, the competitors will make their choice by using the monitors which will be ready in the Beach
Foundation following their diving in 22 June 2002.
M. BSK maintains the right to hold copies of the awarded films or slides; indicating the name of the owner. The copies may be used in non-commercial exhibitions, presentations and etc.. The original works will be returned to the owners in 5 weeks. Participant will have been considered to accept all the terms and regulations.
N. Registration deadline for application: 01 May 2002
O. Registration fee is 20 USD or equivalent amount in Euros. Competitors may compete in multiple categories once the fees are paid

The Club's existing BC's, regulators and tanks will be reserved for free demands. As the equipment are limited, the demand of equipment must be pointed out in the application form. The contestants must provide their own weight belts.

17.00 End of the competition and start for the video editing.
